City lays out plan for improvement after audit finds lack of proper record keeping

Madison City Commissioners and city staff weighed in Monday after Madison received the results of its 2022 audit. As we told you yesterday, the audit found that the city had improper records retention practices, an absence of documented policies and procedures for retaining financial and programmatic records, and a lack of formal, written procurement policy to ensure compliance with federal regulations.

City Administrator Jameson Berreth laid out some of the steps the city has taken, and will continue to take, regarding records retention.

Finance Officer Amy Sad, who was hired earlier this year, agreed that the city record keeping has improved.

Sad shared a document with commissioners laying out each of the steps the city has and will take to rectify the issues found in the audit. You can read 2022 Audit Findings Amy’s Notes
