City Commission to consider options for East Center Park during their meeting tonight
The Madison City commission will consider a recommendation to remove the current playground equipment from East Center Park, during their meeting tonight. The Parks & Recreation Board recently discussed equipment at East Center Park (sometimes known as Yogi Bear Park) and what action, if any, should be taken to restore, replace, or remove the equipment.
The park equipment includes a four-swing swing set, two teeter-totters, a merry-go-round, and a climbing feature. The equipment is reaching the end of its useful life. Options for the park include; refurbish some of the equipment as able, replacing the equipment at an potential cost range of 75 to 150-thousand dollars, or removing the equipment and maintaining the park as a green space.Â
The Park Board recommended removing playground equipment based on the equipment condition, existing usage, and proximity to nearby park amenities.Â
Other items on the Commission agenda today include a number of change orders for the Park Creek Wall Improvements, as well as Water System Improvements.Â
The Commission is also expected to approve an extension to City Hall Redevelopment Request for Proposal period. The City is seeking proposals for the redevelopment of its historic City Hall and Police Station. City staff will begin moving into the new Municipal Building later this year.Â
Tonight’s City Commission Meeting Begins at 5:30 in the Commission Room at Madison City Hall.
