“Boater Safety: Training for Emmy” to be held this Saturday at the Hillside

The Lake Madison Development Association, the Lake Brandt Association, and the South Dakota Game Fish and Parks, will be holding a Boater Safety Training event this Saturday. The training will take place at Hillside Resort on Lake Madison from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm.

This event, titled “Boater Safety: Training for Emmy,” is dedicated to the memory of Emmy Gorman, whose life was tragically cut short due to a boating accident in the summer of 2023. In honor of Emmy, the event aims to promote boater safety and prevent future tragedies on the water.

Participants will receive comprehensive safety training, including: navigation rules and regulations, emergency procedures, best practices for safe boating, and proper use of life jackets and other safety equipment.

As part of the training, jet skis and boats will be used on the water for hands-on training to enhance watercraft skills.  The training is intended for youth ages 14 and up and must be accompanied by an adult.
