Aaron McGowan Appointed as Interim State’s Attorney After Kloeppner Resignation

Lake County’s newly elected State’s Attorney has also been appointed to serve as its interim State’s Attorney, after the resignation last week of Wendy Kloeppner. Aaron McGowan will be sworn in today at 9am.

McGowan won the June Republican primary nomination over Kloeppner, winning 67% of the county’s republican votes.

Kloeppner resigned effective July 5th to take a position at a private practice in Sioux Falls. Lake County commissioner formally appointed McGowan to the position at a special meeting on Monday, with a salary of $120,880. He will serve as interim State’s Attorney until being sworn into the elected position in January of 2025.
