Trojans defeat the Bulldogs in first round of volleyball playoffs
The Madison volleyball season came to an end with a home loss to West Central on Tuesday night, in the opening round of the Region 3A tournament. Madison never trailed in the opening set, but never pulled away either, winning by a score of 25-23.Â
West Central led for nearly all of set two. Madison rallied for a close finish, but lost the set 25-22. The Bulldogs took an early lead in the third set before falling 25-21. It then looked like the Bulldogs would force a 5th set, but Madison couldn’t hold on to a 7 point lead as they lost the set 25-23.
Jaya Engles led Madison with 18 digs, 13 kills, and 5 aces. Karley Theede had 36 assists, and Lydia Nelson 4 blocks in the loss.Â
Madison finished the volleyball season with a record of 9-17. West Central now moves on to the Region 3A semifinals, where they will take on #1 Dell Rapids.Â
In the other quarterfinals, Baltic defeated Flandreau 3-0, and Garretson topped Tri-Valley 3-0.
