Madison Volleyball Advances To SoDak-16
The Madison Bulldogs survived a five set thriller on Thursday night, and advanced to the “SoDak 16” with a 3-2 win over the Wagner Red Raiders. The opening set let both team, and a packed crowd, know what they’d be in for. The two teams traded leads throughout the first set with neither squad leading by more than three points. Madison won that first set 25-21.
In set two the Red Raiders came back from a pair of three point defects to win 25-23. The Bulldogs won the third set 25-19, but fell behind late in set #4. Madison closed a six point deficit down to just two points, but the outside hitting of Wagner junior Abby Brunsing powered Wagner to a 25-21 win.
Madison opened up an early lead in the 5th set behind three quick kills from Abby Brooks. Wagner came back to tie the set at 6-6, but Sophia VandenBosch put down three straight kills to get the lead back. This time the Bulldogs wouldn’t give it up, as they rolled to a 15-8 victory.
Abby Brooks led Madison with 22 kills. VandenBosch added 13 kills, and Grace Nelson 17 kills and 30 assists. Senior Morgan Anderson had 35 digs in the match. Abby Brunsing paced Wagner with 21 kills and 22 digs.
Madison moves on to the “SoDak 16”, as the #11 seed. The Bulldogs will take on #6 Rapid City Christian, on Tuesday, November 12th. Time and location will be decided later today.
