Battling at the 2020 VFW 16U Class A State Tournament, the Madison Maroon squad advanced to the state title game with a 12-6 win over Milbank on Saturday. Madison held a one run lead after three innings, but would score six unanswered over the final four frames. Trey Smith drove in five runs while scoring twice, Nathan Ricke went deep and drove in three, Riley Kearin also drove in three runs and Logan Albee scored four times. Ricke, Smith and Aiden Jensen all saw time on the mound versus Milbank.
In the championship game Sunday versus Beresford, Madison was unable to keep up in an 8-1 loss. Beresford scored three runs in the top of the first, added another in the third and then tallied four more in the fifth inning. Smith and Colby Vostad each had two hits and Mickale Dohrer scored the lone run for Madison. Congratulations to Madison Maroon on a fantastic season, taking second place at the state tournament and finished with a 15-2 record.
