The Madison Bulldogs held their home-opener in Basketball on Thursday night, welcoming in Lennox for a Dakota-Twelve doubleheader. Madison came away with a split, the girls falling 39-35 and the boys won 47-36.

The visiting Orioles held court in the first eight minutes of the girls game, leading 13-4. Madison would slowly chip away at the deficit in the second and third quarters. With under two minutes remaining in the third, the Lady Bulldogs tied the contest at 20, only to see Lennox end the quarter on a 5-0 run. That run would be the difference in the end, as the two sides traded buckets in the final frame. Sophia Vanden Bosch finished with 14 points for Madison, Zoey Gerry had seven points and nine rebounds. Both teams shot under 35% in the game.

In the night cap, the Bulldogs used a stout defense in the first half, limiting Lennox to 11 total points and 17% shooting to lead 23-11 at the break. Madison built their lead up to 16 points in the fourth quarter before a late comeback came up short for the Orioles. Carter Bergheim had a big game, scoring all ten of the Bulldogs’ points in the third quarter and finished with a game 23 points. Dillon Bickett contributed 7 points off the bench. MHS shot 46% in the game, including 56% in the second half.

Lady Bulldogs, at 1-2, are back in action Saturday at Garretson, part of the Girls Entringer Classic. The boys, at 2-1, have a lite break and will return to action on the 31st.
