Madison Basketball Hosted Canton on Saturday

Over this past weekend, the Madison Bulldog basketball teams hosted Canton in a double header, with the girls falling 68-41 and the boys picking up a 71-63 victory. 

The girls team struggled out of the gate, as Canton got the lead first and never let go of it. Madison scored only 14 points in the first half, while Canton had 23 points in the first quarter and 30 more in the second to take a 53-14 lead into the half.

Despite the Bulldogs outscoring the C-Hawks 27-15 in the second half, the Lady Bulldogs lost by over 20 points, with a final score of 68-41.

Zoey Gerry led the Bulldogs with 17 points and six rebounds. Audrey Nelson added 11 points, three rebounds, and three blocks. 

Amanda Lease, Canton, had a game leading 22 points.

With the loss, the Lady Bulldogs fell to 4-13. 

In the boys game, the Bulldogs had more success over the C-Hawks, getting a one point lead after the first quarter up 12-11. Both teams remained competitive throughout the rest of games, with Canton taking a two point lead into halftime up 32-20.

After the C-Hawks led by one heading into the final quarter, the Bulldogs finished the game strong, outscoring Canton 28-17 in the fourth on their way to the 71-63 victory. 

Aiden Jensen finished with a game leading 24 points, while also grabbing two rebounds and getting four blocks. 

Three other Bulldogs had double-digit points, with Andrew Comes scoring 15 points while both Ben Brooks and Eli Barger added 12 points.

Braxton Mulder led Canton with 21 points and three rebounds.

After the win, the Bulldogs got to double-digit victories as they now have a 10-7 record. 

The boys will wait until Friday to play next when they host Dakota Valley. Meanwhile the girls will travel to Milbank tomorrow night at 7:30pm.
