Madison baseball team defeats Groton and Sioux Valley; Advance to Class B State Baseball Tournament

The Madison High School baseball team defeated Groton and Sioux Valley on Sunday, to advance to the Class B State Baseball Tournament. Madison opened the Region 2B tournament on Sunday with a 14-4 win over Groton. Aspen Dahl, Mason Kennington, and Riley Kearin each drove in 3 runs for the Bulldogs. Dahl had a double and a pair of triples, and Carson Wolf stole 3 bases in the win. Mickale Dohrer tossed a complete game, giving up just one earned run on two hits. 

The Bulldogs then matched up with Sioux Valley, with a trip to State on the line. Hayden Kane doubled in a run in the 2nd inning to give Madison the lead over the Cossacks. Nate Ricke drove in two more runs in the 5th, as the Bulldogs won 3-0. Aspen Dahl dominated on the mound, allowing just three hits in seven shutout innings, while striking out 14 Sioux Valley batters. 

Redfield also qualified for the State Tournament out of Region 2B. The Pheasants defeated Castlewood and Howard to punch their ticket to State. 

Six more teams will qualify today, as the other three class B Regions play their games. Dell Rapids will take on McCook Central today in Region 3, while West Central will take on Baltic. 

The Class B State Baseball Tournament will be held May 30th and 31st at Sioux Falls Stadium.
