Lady Bulldogs Lose at Home to the Watchdogs

Last night, the Madison Bulldogs girls basketball team returned home and were handed a 59-52 loss from the Beresford Watchdogs.

Beresford was able to grab the lead early in the game, and once they gained the lead they did not let go of it.

Bulldogs struggled to both score and avoid turning the ball over early on, as Audrey Nelson was the only Bulldog to score in the first few minutes, scoring five points before Zoey Gerry finally added two herself.

Madison trailed by ten heading into both halftime and after the third quarter, as Beresford led 43-33 after three quarters. The Bulldogs had gotten within two of the Watchdogs on multiple occasions, but every time the Bulldogs would get close the Watchdogs would go on another run.

Gerry scored 18 points in the second half to try to give Madison a chance, but after Nelson was fouled out in the final minutes, the Bulldogs were unable to successfully make the comeback and Beresford held on to beat Madison 59-52.

Gerry finished with 24 points and five rebounds. Nelson had 19 points and seven rebounds before fouling out. Karley Lurz had a game leading nine rebounds and seven rebounds to go with her two points.

Ellie Osthus led the Bulldogs off the bench with four points, going 4/6 from the free throw line, while also grabbing six rebounds.

Ella Merriman, Beresford, tied Gerry for the game lead in points, also scoring 24 points and grabbing four rebounds and getting four blocks.

The Lady Bulldogs fell to 3-5 with the loss, and will next play this Friday, January 20th when they head down to Sioux Falls Christian, playing at 6:30pm. Game can be heard on AM 1390 or online at AmazingMadison.com.
