Bulldogs Fall in Opening Round of State Tournament

Despite tying the game up late, the Madison Bulldogs Softball team fell to Tea Area yesterday in the opening round of the SDHSAA Class A State tournament.

After three innings, both teams had each notched a run with the game tied at 1-1. The Titans then went on to score three runs in the top of the fifth to give them their first lead of the game at 4-1.

The Bulldogs were unable to provide an immediate answer, but did have a three-run inning of their own in the bottom of the sixth to tie the game back up, now at 4-4. Madison was aided by hits from Phoebe Corbin and Sophia Sudenga in the inning.

With the game tied heading into the final inning, Tea Area registered one more run that Madison was unable to provide an answer for as the Titans defeated the Bulldogs 5-4.

The loss ended the Bulldogs six-game win streak heading into the tournament.

Amanada Vacanti started on the mound for Madison, pitching seven innings and striking out nine. She also allowed five runs on seven hits.

Evie Lurz led the Bulldogs at the plate with four hits in four at bats. Corbin led in RBI’s with two on one hit.
