Bulldogs Fall Behind Early in State Baseball Tournament

After giving up two early runs, the Madison baseball team was unable to recover as they fell to Dell Rapids in the state tournament 9-1. 

The Bulldogs were unable to score a run for the first three innings until Hayden Kane’s RBI Single in the top of the fourth scored Madison’s only run, putting them down 3-1. 

In the bottom of the fifth, the Quarriers put the game out of reach scoring five runs to take the 9-1 lead, which they held for the rest of the game as the Bulldogs fell in the state tournament to the two-time defending state champions.

Taking the loss on the mound for Madison was Lucas Mork, who allowed four hits and six runs over four innings. He also struck out four.  Tad Tajden picked up the win for Dell Rapids, surrendering one run on four hits over seven innings and striking out three. 

Getting hits for the Bulldogs were Kane, Jared Kennington, Carson Wolf, and Thomas Mechels, who each had one hit. 

Madison totaled four hits and three errors, while Dell Rapids had nine hits and one error. 

The Bulldogs end the 2023 season with a 11-7 overall record.
