Bulldog Basketball Drops Two On The Road
The Madison boys fell to 2-1, and the girls to 1-2, as the Bulldogs lost both games of a varsity doubleheader with Lennox on Thursday night. In the girls game, reigning Gatorade Player of the year, and future SDSU Jackrabbit Madysen Vlastuin poured in 15 points in a 51-23 win over Madison. Rianna Fillipi had 16 for the Orioles, who built up a 39-5 lead by halftime. Kendra Leighton had 7 for the Bulldogs.
The boys game saw the lead constantly changing hands before the Orioles escaped with a 58-56 win in Overtime. Madison trailed in the game by as many as nine points, but the shooting of Tyler Tappe and Keaton Nighbert kept the Bulldogs within striking distance. In the 4th quarter Madison opened up a five point lead, their biggest of the game. The lead didn’t last long, as Lennox responded with a 7-0 run to take a 53-51 lead. Nighbert then hit a pair of free throws with seconds left to send the game into overtime.
Madison took the first lead in overtime on a pair of free throws from Cody Brown. Lennox tied it from the line on their next possession, then added three more free throws to take a 58-56 lead. Madison got two good looks at three pointers to try and win the game, but neither would fall, and Lennox held on for the two point win.
Tappe finished with 20 points for the Bulldogs, Nighbert had a season high 17. Peyton Eich led the Orioles with 19 points, Josh Arlt added 16.
The Bulldog boys are off now until December 28th. The girls will take on Castlewood this Saturday, in the 22nd Annual Michael J. Entringer Girls Classic. That game tips off at 12:30 Saturday afternoon in Colman. Pregame starts at 12:15, on AM 1390.
