Brooks and Prorok pitch Madison/Chester to State

The Madison/Chester High baseball team advanced to the State High School Baseball Tournament on Wednesday, in the Region 2B tournament. The Bulldogs opened Wednesday afternoon with a 3-0 win over the Elkton Blue Sox. Madison/Chester did all their scoring in the 5th inning. Cale Johnson led off the inning being hit by a pitch, and Eli Barger reached on an error. Jordan Pedersen singled in two runs and later scored on another error. That was all the run support Ben Brooks needed. The junior went the distance in game 1, allowing just 4 hits and striking out 14 over 7 shutout innings.

The Bulldogs then took on Redfield Area with a trip to state on the line, and if Brooks was great in game one, JD Prorok was exceptional in game two. Prorok recorded all 21 outs, via strikeouts. He allowed just one hit and two walks in the 7 inning shutout. Barger, Thomas Mechels, Quinn Flemming, Quincy Kurtz, and Tregg McGillivary all had RBI’s for the Bulldogs. Brooks went 2 for 2 with a pair of runs and a stolen base.

Madison will be the #2 seed in the Class B State Baseball Tournament, taking on Mount Vernon/Plankinton. That Tournament will be held May 31st and June 1st at Augustana’s Ronken Field in Sioux Falls.
