Big Third Quarter Helps Give Bulldogs Ninth Win of the Season

The Madison Bulldogs boys basketball team last night used a big third quarter to get back into the win column, beating McCook Central/Montrose 62-40.

Aiden Jensen paved the way for Madison early, scoring the teams first seven points as the Bulldogs got out to the quick 11-6 lead. The Fighting Cougars though outscored the Bulldogs 6-2 in the final minutes of the opening quarter, as Madison led by one at 13-12.

MCM kept it close in the second quarter with Madison, though the closest they would get would be within one point as the Bulldogs went into halftime up 33-30.

The third quarter was where the Bulldogs took control of the game, outscoring the Fighting Cougars 19-5 in the quarter, and not allowing anything more than a free throw until less than two minutes left in the quarter.

With Madison leading 52-35 heading into the final quarter, it allowed the Bulldogs to start emptying out their bench late in the game as they continued to build on their lead at home, on their way to winning 62-40.

Jensen finished the game with his seventh double-double of the season, scoring 26 points and securing 11 rebounds. It was also the ninth time this season Jensen went over 20 points in a game. He also added three blocks, two steals, and two assists.

Andrew Comes ended with nine points and two rebounds. Eli Barger and Chuck Callahan each ended with five points each. Barger grabbed four rebounds as well, while Callahan had three assists.

Elijah Sims came off the bench and scored five points also, along with four rebounds.

Owen Alley led the Fighting Cougars with 12 points and five rebounds.

The Bulldogs shot 28-60 from the field, and hit all three of their free throw attempts, while MCM shot 13-53 and only made 5-11 free throws.

Madison improved to 9-6 with the win, while MCM fell to 9-7. The Bulldogs will hit the road this Friday night when they travel to play West Central.
