Big First Quarter Helps MCM Get Road Win at Madison

The McCook Central Montrose Fighting Cougars used a large first quarter to help them get the 70-52 victory over the Madison Lady Bulldogs. 

MCM scored twenty more points than Madison in the first quarter, getting the first lead and never letting it up. The Fighting Cougars led 26-6 after the first quarter.

The Lady Bulldogs attempted to comeback in the second quarter after scoring fifteen points in the quarter, but the Fighting Cougars were still able to take a double-digit lead into halftime up 37-21.

At the start of the second half, MCM continued to add to their lead as they outscored Madison 33-31 in the half, defeating the Lady Bulldogs 70-52. 

Madison turned the ball over 24 times and shot 16-53 from the field. Meanwhile, MCM went 21-52 and turned the ball over 16 times.

The Bulldogs were led by Zoey Gerry’s 13 points and three rebounds, followed by Ella Peterrein’s ten points and three rebounds. Audrey Nelson had eight points, five rebounds, and four steals. 

Carley Katzer led the Fighting Cougars, scoring 16 points and getting five rebounds. Michaela

McCormick added 13 points and six rebounds. 

The Fighting Cougars ended their regular season with an 8-12 record. The Lady Bulldogs, meanwhile, fell to 4-14 and return tonight with their final regular season game when they host Dakota Valley. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:30pm, and the game can be heard on AM 1390 or online at AmazingMadison.com.
