Eight additional COVID-19 deaths are being reported in the state Wednesday by the state Department of Health.  One of the deaths is a Lake County resident, and one is a Brookings County resident.  The other deaths are being reported in Pennington, Clay, Hughes, and Yankton counties, and two in Minnehaha County.  Wednesday’s increase brings the state’s total number of virus-related deaths to 192.  Lake County’s total number of deaths increases to seven.  

Another two new positive COVID-19 cases are also being reported in Lake County Wednesday, along with two recovered cases.  There are currently 24 active cases in the county, and seven people have ever been hospitalized because of the virus.

According to the state, the number of active COVID-19 cases in area counties as of Wednesday includes 82 in Brookings, 16 in McCook, and 11 in Moody County.  There are currently seven active cases in Kingsbury County and two in Miner County.  

Statewide, 297 new positive COVID-19 cases are being reported Wednesday, with an increase in both active cases and hospitalizations. There are now 2442 active cases and 139 people are hospitalized.
