VFW essay contest winners chosen

Several area students recently had their essays chosen as winners in the VFW’s Patriot’s Pen and Voice of Democracy essay contests.

Three Madison 8th grade students received awards for their Patriot’s Pen essays.  First Place was Shay Poncelet, earning a two-hundred dollar scholarship.  Second Place went to Tristan Castetter, who received a 150-dollar scholarship, and Third Place was Cooper Bergheim, who earned a one-hundred dollar scholarship.

For the Voice of Democracy essay contest, Natalie Martian, a tenth grade student from Howard, received first place and a three-hundred dollar scholarship.  Delilah Maxwell, a ninth grade student from Madison, earned a two-hundred dollar scholarship, and Faith Genzlinger, an eleventh grade student from Howard, won a one-hundred dollar scholarship for her essay.

All of the local essay winners’ essays will move on to the district level for judging.
