Tax bills making way through SD Legislature
Various tax cut bills are starting to work their way through the South Dakota legislative process. A bill to cut the sales tax on food by two percent was killed in the House Appropriations Committee this week.
Sponsor, Representative Oren Lesmeister said it was an option bill.
House Bill 1075 is the bill to cut the sales tax on groceries entirely backed by Governor Kristi Noem. Lesmeister said a complete cut of the grocery sales tax may be too big a step at once.
Lesmeister said some legislators may want to cut taxes in pieces.
HB1075 is scheduled to be heard in committee on Tuesday.
