State’s total of positive COVID-19 cases increases to 868 Monday

The number of positive COVID-19 cases in the state increased by its largest amount Monday. The state Department of Health reports 138 new positive cases Monday, bringing the state’s overall total to 868. 127 of the new positive coronavirus cases are in Minnehaha County, who now has a total of 654 positive COVID-19 cases. 350 of the Minnehaha County cases are employees of the Smithfield Foods processing plant.
No new positive cases have been reported in area counties, with the exception of Brookings County where there are now nine positive cases reported and six people who have recovered from the virus.
Overall, 207 people in the state have recovered from the virus. Six people have died from COVID-19 and 44 people have been hospitalized overall.
