The state Division of Criminal Investigation has released the name of the man injured in an officer-involved shooting incident Wednesday in Madison.

DCI Chief of Staff Tim Bormann said that 34-year-old Ben Hernandez was injured in the shooting that took place near Classic Corner in Madison.  Bormann said that Hernandez was injured and taken by ambulance to Madison Regional Health System Wednesday afternoon and then airlifted to a Sioux Falls hospital with non life-threatening injuries.  He said that Hernandez is from the Madison area.

The Madison Police Department, Lake County Sheriff’s Office, and South Dakota Highway Patrol all responded to an incident near Classic Corner at around 11:30 Wednesday morning.  Madison Police have reported that they responded to a report of a barricaded suicidal subject in a vehicle.  Bormann said that the DCI is continuing to investigate the officer-involved shooting portion of the incident.  Any local charges against the individual involved will be determined by the Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office.Â
