Some flooding in and around Madison, creek levels holding

The Madison Area received over 5.50 inches of rain over the past 48 hours.

SE 1st Street and East Center Street are closed East of Lincoln Avenue and West of Jefferson. Outside of this area, the creeks in Madison are mostly contained in their banks.

Lake Herman is the highest of the area lakes, and there is some flooding of Lake Herman State Park and the Madison Country Club.

Lake Madison will continue to rise over the next several days. Water is just beginning to flow out of Lake Madison and threw the spillway by the Lakes Golf Course.

The City of Madison and Sioux Valley Energy remind you that, if you see electrical equipment under water due to flooding, please know that it is sealed and protected from the water as long as the power remains on. Please AVOID water that has electrical equipment.

There is a self serve sandbag station set up at the Lake County Highway Shop.
