Sobriety checkpoints planned for area counties

South Dakota’s Department of Public Safety said fourteen sobriety checkpoints in twelve counties are scheduled to be held during the month of December.

The monthly checkpoints are designed to encourage people to not drink and drive. The checkpoints are funded by the South Dakota Office of Highway Safety and conducted by the South Dakota Highway Patrol with the help of local law enforcement.

In our area, December checkpoints are scheduled for the counties of Moody, Minnehaha, and Beadle.  Other counties where checkpoints will take place in the state are:  Brown, Lawrence, Lyman, Meade, Mellette, Pennington, Roberts, Stanley, and Walworth.

Officials remind drivers not to drink and drive regardless of whether there is a checkpoint planned in their county.
