Smoke Alarm Safety

The South Dakota Department of Public Safety is reminding everyone to help keep your home prepared for fire safety especially when it comes to smoke alarms.

Approximately 3 out of 5 fire related deaths occur in homes without smoke alarms or non-working smoke alarms. Every level in your home, sleeping room, and areas outside sleeping areas should have connected smoke alarms to give you the best warning in the event of a home fire.

They also remind you that  smoke alarms should be tested every month and all smoke alarms older than 10 years should be replaced.
