Sioux Valley Energy, based in Colman, is in the middle of a project to replace or rebuild about one-hundred twenty-five miles of power lines.

Through this fall, the electric cooperative has spent more than fourteen million dollars on the project. Vice President of Engineering and Operations Ted Smith says most of the lines have been in place a long time.

Smith says rebuilding an electric system is an expensive process.

Smith says they continue to put more electric lines underground.

Smith says the upgrade project will continue for several years. Sioux Valley serves about twenty-seven thousand customers between Sioux Falls and Brookings and into western Minnesota.
