Sioux Valley Energy’s Operation Round Up program has given out more than two-million dollars to support worthy causes in its members’ communities. The program recently surpassed the two-million dollar milestone as it awarded grants in December.
Operation Round Up funds come from Sioux Valley Energy members who round up their electric bill to the next highest dollar and employees who donate from their paycheck. Approximately eighty-five percent of Sioux Valley Energy members and nearly ninety percent of employees contribute.
The region served by Operation Round Up includes the seven-county Sioux Valley Energy service area, which includes Brookings, Lake, Moody, Minnehaha, and Kingsbury counties in South Dakota and Rock and Pipestone counties in Minnesota.
More than 20 grants were awarded this month to a number of area organizations, including East Dakota Transit, Lake County 4-H Leaders, and the Flandreau After Prom organization.
