School districts still looking to fill positions as start of school year nears

As schools across the state get ready to start classes again for the next school year, many are still looking for teachers and staff to fill open positions.

Wade Pogany, Executive Director of the Associated School Boards of South Dakota, said as of last week there were still about three- hundred openings for teachers.

Pogany said districts will make the hires they can and then make adjustments.

Pogany said most districts have many other jobs they also need to fill.

Districts got a six-percent increase in their state funding, and many moved that directly to teacher pay.
