The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in more people shopping online. It’s also increased the number of scams targeting shoppers.

Jesse Schmidt of the Better Business Bureau in South Dakota says scammers love to dwell on uncertainty.

Schmidt says the Better Business Bureau Scam Tracker indicated adults aged 18-24 reported the highest median losses and highest likelihood of losses in 2020. Schmidt says most scammers are finding their victims through social media platforms.

Schmidt says the best protection is to thoroughly research ads and the products before purchasing any item or service.
