Seventy additional positive COVID-19 cases are being reported Tuesday in the state by the state Department of Health.  South Dakota’s overall total now is 1755. Close to 90-percent of the positive cases in the state are in Minnehaha and Lincoln counties.  More than 900 positive cases are either Smithfield Foods employees or their close contacts.  

The state reports that one more person has died from the virus – a male in his 60’s from Minnehaha County.  That brings the total number of deaths in the state to 8, with four in Minnehaha County, two in Beadle, and one each in McCook and Pennington counties.

The state reports that 824 people in the state have recovered from the virus, and there have been one-hundred people hospitalized overall, with 65 of them currently in the hospital.  

Lake County’s number of positive cases remains at three, with two recovered, and 87 negative tests.
