Number of active COVID-19 cases increases

Several area counties are seeing some active COVID-19 cases again.  In the state Department of Health’s weekly report Wednesday, Lake, McCook, Moody, and Kingsbury counties all are now in the minimal community spread category, while Brookings County is in moderate. Brookings County has seven active coronavirus cases currently, while the remaining area counties have three or less each.  

Statewide, the state is reporting two more COVID-19 deaths since last week’s report, and more than 140 more active cases, bringing the total number of active cases in the state to 434.  The number of people in the state hospitalized because of the virus decreased to 33 as of Wednesday.  

The state reports one more case of the Delta variant in the state also, bringing the overall number of cases of the variant to thirteen.  

Close to 54-percent of the state’s residents eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine have received both doses, while around 58-percent have received at least one dose.
