Madison to permanently close the current Restricted Use Site on November 1st

The City of Madison announced Wednesday that it is permanently closing the city’sRestricted Use Site, located at 23241 446th Avenue in Winfred. The closure is effective November 1.

Due to the site nearing capacity, it will no longer be available for use by the public, including residents, contractors, and businesses.

The city has been working on securing a new location, with hopes of having it ready for public use by early 2025. Progress is currently on hold due to ongoing administrative proceedings related to a permit. The city says they are committed to working through this process and moving forward at the earliest opportunity.

While the Restricted Use Site is closed Madison residents are encouraged to use landfills in nearby areas such as Brookings and Sioux Falls.

The Brookings landfill is open Monday through Friday from 7:30am to 4:15pm, and Saturday’s from 8 to 11:45am. The fee for uncovered loads to the Brookings landfill is $25.

The Sioux Falls landfill is open Monday through Saturday from 7:30am to 5pm. Cost in Sioux Falls for residential Pickup Truck or Trailers, less than 3 cubic yards or 8,500 lbs, is $19.
