Madison man sentenced for assaulting law enforcement officer

A 27-year-old Madison man will spend time in the state penitentiary on a felony charge of assaulting a law enforcement officer.  Phillip George was sentenced this week in Lake County Circuit Court on one count of Simple Assault against a Law Enforcement Officer.  Circuit Judge Pat Pardy sentenced George to serve two years in the state penitentiary and ordered him to pay fine, costs, and restitution totaling close to one-thousand dollars, as well as his court appointed attorney’s fees.  The judge gave him credit for two days he’s already served in jail.

George was also sentenced on a misdemeanor charge of obstructing an officer.  Judge Pardy sentenced George to serve 170 days in jail, but gave him credit for the same amount of days he’s already served.  The judge also waived any additional fines or court costs on the misdemeanor charge, and ordered that the two sentences be served consecutively. Â
