Madison firefighters respond to field fires Sunday
The Madison Fire Department responded to a couple of fires in soybean fields on Sunday afternoon. Fire Chief Randy Minnaert said that firefighters responded around 3:45 Sunday afternoon to a report of a fire in a soybean field on 228th Street near Rutland. Minnaert said that Madison, Nunda, and Wentworth Fire Departments were all dispatched to the fire call. He said that Madison firefighters were called back from the call after the farmer got the fire under control.
Right after that at around 4:00 Sunday afternoon, Minnaert said firefighters responded to a combine fire south of Madison near 454th Avenue and 238th Street. He said that a combine belonging to Steven Strom had started on fire, with some of the fire getting into a soybean field also. Minnaert said there was minor damage to the combine and some soybeans as a result of the fire.
