The Madison Fire Department is planning to purchase new helmets for firefighters and is seeking grant funding to help with the cost.  Madison Fire Chief Randy Minnaert met with Madison City Commissioners this week to discuss a grant application the department is submitting through the Sioux Valley Energy Operation Round-Up program.  Minnaert said the department is purchasing 29 new helmets – one for each member of the fire department.  He said that fire helmets need to be replaced every ten years. Minnaert told commissioners that he is applying for up to seven-thousand dollars through the Sioux Valley Energy program, which is about half the purchase price of the helmets.  He said that any amount the department may receive will be helpful in helping pay for the new gear.
