The City of Madison’s Electric Department has been recognized for its service during the recent flooding event in the city.  The Madison Electric Department has been named this year’s recipient of the Heartland Consumers Power District’s Distinguished Service Award.

Heartland CEO Russell Olson said the award is typically granted to an individual, but he said the entire department went above and beyond in this situation and they are proud of all of their efforts.

Heartland established the Distinguished Service Award to recognize exceptional employees at Heartland customer utilities. The award is given out during Public Power Week, which is celebrated October 6th through the 12th.

Olson said “it’s pretty incredible what their crew accomplished in just a few days”.  He said “their commitment to their town and emphasis on safety is certainly commendable”.

Madison’s electric department consists of five linemen, an electric foreman, a utility director, utility services coordinator and GIS/project engineer. They provide public power to more than thirty-three-hundred customers and maintain 85 miles of overhead and underground line throughout the city.  Heartland provides wholesale power to the city of Madison along with 29 other municipal electric utilities in the region.
