Madison City Commission plans for 2022 sidewalk projects

The Madison City Commission has taken the first step in planning for next year’s sidewalk improvement project.

Ryan Hegg, the city’s Director of Engineering and Community Development, told commissioners during their meeting Monday that there are five different project areas included in the proposed resolution of necessity for the project.  Hegg said that the areas included in the proposed resolution are decided on by the city’s Sidewalk Committee.

Hegg said the sidewalk project includes work for the property owners included in the resolution, as well as the city.

The commission will hold a hearing on the proposed resolution for the sidewalk improvement project during its meeting on December 27th.

Also on Monday, commissioners adopted a resolution for the city’s sidewalk repair improvement project for 2022.  Hegg said that the repairs included in the resolution are determined by annual inspections done by the City Engineer’s Office in the spring.

Hegg said there are 77 areas in the city included in the sidewalk repair improvement project resolution for next year.  He said that the City Engineer’s Office inspects sidewalks in one-sixth of the city every year.

More information on the sidewalk improvement and repair improvement projects can be found in the Madison City Commission agenda from Monday’s meeting.
