The Madison City Commission narrowly passed a resolution during its meeting Monday approving temporary modifications of the city’s utilities practices.

Utilities Director Brad Lawrence told commissioners that the resolution is aimed at helping out city residents who are majorly affected by the COVID-19 outbreak.

Lawrence said the resolution will be effective for up to 60 days and can be rescinded or extended if needed.

City Finance Officer Jennifer Eimers said that she isn’t opposed to the resolution, but thinks there are consequences that need to be addressed with it.

Commissioners approved the resolution on a three-to-two vote, with Mayor Marshall Dennert and Commissioner Bob Thill voting against it.Â
