Madison Central to add club trap shooting team

Madison Central students will soon be able to take part in a trap shooting team if they are interested.  Two high school students – Trevor Harms and James Bame – met with the Madison Central School Board this week asking for approval for the new club sport for the school district.

The team would not be school sanctioned or receive funding through the district, but would be a club sport that does its own fundraising.  Madison High School teacher Kristie Olson told the board that she and her husband have agreed to help coach the new trap shooting team.  She told the board that all of the shooting would happen off-site, most likely at the Izaak Walton Club near Madison.

Superintendent Joel Jorgenson said that there are six schools in the Dakota-12 Conference that Madison is a member of who already have trap shooting teams.

The students said that they know of at least fifteen students who may be interested in joining the team at this time.  Olson said that they will follow all of the requirements once they get the trap shooting team started.

Madison Central School Board members didn’t need to give formal approval to the formation of the new club sport, but gave their full support for the trap shooting team to move forward.
