Madison Central School District reports two new positive COVID-19 cases

The Madison Central School District is reporting two new positive COVID-19 cases in the Madison Middle School.  The district said Monday that there are two students or staff members who tested positive for the virus.  Superintendent Joel Jorgenson said that both cases are from the same household and that there are no close contacts within the school.  Along with these two active cases in the middle school, there are also two active cases currently in Madison Elementary School.

In Lake County on Monday, there were 37 active COVID-19 cases and the county remains in the high community spread category.  The state Department of Health also reported that all surrounding counties also had high community spread.  

Statewide, the number of active COVID-19 cases were just less than six-thousand, with 186 people currently hospitalized.  A total of 2267 people in the state have died with COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic.
