Madison Central reports first positive COVID-19 case in district this school year

The Madison Central School District is reporting its first positive case of COVID-19 for the school year.  The case is a student or staff member at Madison Elementary School who has tested positive for COVID-19.  The district said that the person hasn’t been in the school yet, so there are no close contacts within the school.  All three Madison Central Schools remain at the district’s Level One status.

As of Monday, the state Department of Health reported 20 active cases of COVID-19 in Lake County and the county is in the Substantial community spread category.  Other area counties are listed as having High community spread.  Brookings County has the highest number of active cases in the area with 121, Moody County has fourteen, and Kingsbury County has eleven active COVID-19 cases.  McCook and Miner counties each had six active coronavirus cases as of Monday. 

Statewide, there are more than 43-hundred active cases, 168 people are currently hospitalized, and 2067 people have died with the virus.
