Madison Central and area high schools plan non-traditional graduation ceremonies

The school year is wrapping up, but not in the traditional fashion this year because of the coronavirus pandemic.  For high school seniors in the area it means possibly waiting a couple of months in order to try to celebrate graduation in person with their classmates.

Madison High School seniors finished up their classes on Wednesday.  The 97 members of Madison’s Class of 2020 will be honored in a virtual graduation online this Sunday, with an in-person traditional ceremony being planned for July 26th.  On Sunday, a Senior video will be online starting at 1:00, followed by the virtual graduation at 2:00 Sunday afternoon.  The school district had yard signs made for all of the graduates that they were able to take home with them on Wednesday.  A link to Sunday’s videos for Madison High School can be found here.

Ten students are graduating this spring from Oldham-Ramona.  Oldham-Ramona is hosting a drive-by graduation parade for the seniors and parents this Saturday, May 16th at 10:30.  A traditional graduation ceremony for Oldham-Ramona’s Class of 2020 is planned for July 18th at 2:00 at the school in Ramona.  Seniors and 8th grade students will be recognized during this time.  The July 18th ceremony will depend on the current CDC and state guidelines at that time.  This year’s Valedictorian for Oldham-Ramona is Riley Spilde, and Salutatorian is Reece Spilde.

The Rutland School District is planning to hold graduation for its twelve graduates on July 25th in Rutland.  An outdoor celebration is being planned on the football field, but it could be moved inside to the Rutland gym if necessary.  Also, depending on the pandemic situation in July, Rutland may have to modify or limit attendees to the graduation ceremony based on the CDC guidelines. Valedictorian for Rutland’s Class of 2020 is Emily Nold, and Salutatorian is Khloe Tieman.

Chester High School has 23 graduates in it’s Class of 2020.  Chester Area High School is planning for a graduation ceremony on July 18th in it’s gymnasium.  If that is not possible at that time, Chester will plan to celebrate graduates with a car parade graduation. Chester Area has three Valedictorian’s for this year’s graduating class – Bailee Anderson, Tiffany Mohr, and Elizabeth Selman.
