Lewis Drug locations and others are added as COVID-19 vaccination sites

There are now more than 50 sites in the state administering COVID-19 vaccinations through the Federal Retail Pharmacy Program.  State Department of Health Secretary Kim Malsam-Rysdon said Wednesday that the additional sites have been activated or are about to start administering the vaccine.  Lewis Drug in Madison is one of the sites, along with others in our area including Lewis Drug in Flandreau and in DeSmet.  In Brookings, there are four locations for vaccine distribution, including Lewis Drug, and Wal-Mart, Hy-Vee, and Brothers Pharmacy.  Malsam-Rysdon said those who qualify for receiving the vaccine need to register.

Retail pharmacies receive their vaccine allotment directly from the federal government, which is separate from the allocation that the state receives each week.  Malsam-Rysdon said that all of the pharmacies are vaccinating residents according to the state’s priority populations.

Malsam-Rysdon said that the state is scheduled to receive close to 19-thousand doses of Pfizer and Moderna vaccine next week.
