Legislative Leaders Haven’t Reached an Agreement on Tax Cuts

Legislative leaders in Pierre have not yet been able to agree on a framework for tax cuts.

Democratic Senate Minority Leader Reynold Nesiba (Nee sib a)  says the only cut he will support is taking the sales tax off food. The Sioux Falls Democrat adds the leaders have not heard from the Governor in a long time.

Some Republican leaders are optimistic about a deal. Senate Republican Majority Leader Casey Crabtree of Madison says there will be some sort of relief for South Dakotans, in a significant way.

Crabtree says the largest property tax cut in the state’s history was on the floor of the Senate Thursday.

There are four days of the regular session yet and another day to consider gubernatorial vetoes.

The Republican and Democratic leaders made their comments during their weekly news conferences Thursday.
