The state Department of Health reported a large increase in COVID-19 cases in the state Thursday, as well as an increase in numbers from the previous two days that were not correctly reported because of a reporting error.  

The state reports 343 new positive cases Thursday, with an additional 280 cases added to the totals also from Tuesday and Wednesday.  This puts the total number of positive COVID-19 cases in the state now at close to 12-thousand-200, with 2000 of them considered active at this time.  Statewide, hospitalizations increased to 75 and the total number of deaths remains at 162.

Thursday’s information from the state shows an increase of four new positive cases in Lake County, moving the overall total to 113.  With 97 recovered cases and six deaths in the county, this puts the number of active cases in Lake County currently at ten. 

Other area counties also saw increases in positive COVID-19 cases Thursday.  Currently, the number of active cases in Brookings County is at 59, while McCook and Kingsbury counties are each at six active cases.  Moody County currently has five active coronavirus cases.
