Lake County receiving grants for Dive Team boat and to update HazMat plan

Lake County will be receiving grant money to help in the purchase of a boat for the county’s Dive Team.

Emergency Manager Kody Keefer told Lake County Commissioners during their meeting Tuesday that he had applied for the grant funds on behalf of the Dive Team for the dive capable response watercraft.  He said the county has been approved for a Homeland Security Grant totaling just less than 52-thousand dollars.  Keefer said the boat will need to be purchased from an out-of-state company, but that the motor and other items will be purchased through SoDak’s Marina of Wentworth.

Commissioners authorized Keefer to go ahead with the purchase of the boat.  He said that the county will make the purchase and then be reimbursed with the grant funds.

Keefer also told commissioners that the county has received approval for a Hazardous Material Emergency Preparedness grant. The money received through this grant will go to updating the county’s Hazardous Materials plan.  Keefer said First District Association of Local Governments will help the county with the work on the plan, which every county is required to have.  He said that the county has had a HazMat Plan, but it had not been updated for several years.Â
