The Lake County Food Pantry Board of Directors has approved moving forward with its annual Christmas food and Angel Tree program this year.

Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, this year’s program will be modified to enable both food and gifts to be available to Lake County families.

Angel Trees will be placed at Gary’s Bakery, the Madison Public Library, and Montgomery’s Furniture on November 7th and gift requests will be available.  The gifts will then be collected starting December 5th at the Madison City Armory, instead of the traditional location of the Presbyterian Church in Madison.  Then on December 12th, all families receiving food and gifts will pick up their items at the City Armory, instead of the traditional delivery by volunteers.

Food Pantry board president Jeff Nelson said that the Food Pantry wants to continue this Christmas tradition while also respecting COVID realities.  He said that by making prudent changes to the program, they will need fewer volunteers and have a larger space to organize the event.

Donations to the Food Pantry are always welcome by mail to PO Box 61, Madison, SD or by deposit in the Food Pantry’s account at First Bank and Trust in Madison.
