Lake County employees getting pay raise

All Lake County employees will be getting a two-dollar an hour increase in wages starting next week.  The Lake County Commission on Tuesday voted in favor of the wage increase, which is effective on July 11th, the start of the county’s next payroll period. The county’s wage committee had recommended the increase during the commission’s last regular meeting.  Commissioners discussed the increase as a way to try to keep current employees and attract good employees for open positions.  At that time, Commission Administrative Officer Shelli Gust told commissioners that several county departments are struggling to recruit and retain employees, with a big factor being wages.

Gust said that the county could use some of the American Rescue Plan Act (or ARPA) funds it is receiving to help in certain areas of the county’s budget, which could then help out its general fund.

Lake County Commissioners approved one employee resignation during Tuesday’s meeting.  Wyatt Cassutt’s resignation as a Heavy Equipment Operator with the county’s Highway Department is effective July 6th.
