The Lake County Commission has approved a proposal from a Lake County road district to purchase a piece of county tax deed property.

Joel DeGroot and Jerry Noonan with the Horizon Heights Road District presented a proposal to commissioners Tuesday to purchase the 3-to-4-foot wide piece of property that stretches along several lots adjacent to the Horizon Heights Road.

Commissioners voted to move forward with the proposal instead of holding a public auction for it.  They agreed to sell the property to the road district for the costs that the county has incurred with the property, and that’s just more than 321-dollars.

At the commissioners’ next meeting they will declare the property surplus, abate the taxes on it, and adopt a resolution for the sale of the property to the road district.Â
