Lake County Commission approves permit for Gaylen’s Homegrown Popcorn

The Lake County Commission has approved a conditional use permit for a new building for a Lake County business.  Gaylen Backus, owner of Gaylen’s Homegrown Popcorn of Wentworth, requested to build a facility on his property to move his family’s expanding popcorn business into.  Zoning Officer Mandi Anderson told commissioners that the building will be located on a corner lot near the corner of Highway 34 and 462nd Avenue, just north of Backus’ home where the business is currently located.

Backus told commissioners that his original plan was to be able to sell more items from the new building, but since that wasn’t allowed under the county’s zoning laws, he opted to go with a new ag processing facility for the business.

Commissioners, acting as a Board of Adjustment, unanimously approved Backus’ request. Â
